The fluff particle, also known as a phluton, is an often neglected part of quantum physics and is classed as a virtual particle. Just like other virtual particles it always spawns in pairs and is very short lived, annihilating with it's partner only moments after creation. It too can only be observed though what effects it has on the universe around us but only appears in close proximity of fur. Nowhere else has it's effects been observed so it is believed that it cannot be created anywhere else.

But what does it do you might ask? The answer is fluffiness. Some types of fur have a higher chance of spawning these particles and the higher amount that can be spawned the fluffier the fur appears to macro world creatures and objects that observes it. It is actually the number one most plausible explanation to why fur is able to be fluffy at all as all other theories are just way too unrealistic.

After annihilation, the particles, just like other virtual ones, leave nothing behind as their energy was merely borrowed for a while. Were a phluton to be separated from it's partner it would be unable to annihilate and it is theorized it would have to take energy directly from the fur itself, as energy can't be made out of nothing, creating a proper classical phluton. However, this could only be achieved near the event horizon of a black hole and has never been observed. Thus, both virtual and classical phlutons remain one of the most vague particles we have yet to properly discover.
